Columbus Day
1 October 12, 1492; is the day when the explorer Christopher Columbus arrive in the “New
2 World.” He sailed from Spain and landing in what is now the Bahamas, near the U.S. state of
3 florida. Because Columbus was Italan, some people serve there favorite Italian foods on
4 this holiday. Others choos to spend the day remembering and honoring the native cultures
5 that Columbus find on his journey. How do you celebrate the day.

1 Have you been to Mount Rushmore. Sixty-foot-tall faces of George Washington, Thomas
2 Jefferson Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln are carved in to Mount Rushmores
3 stone hills. When sculptor Gutzon Borglum first saw mount Rushmore, he said, America will
4 march along that skyline." Borglum begun work in 1927 but he died before the work was
5 finished. The work was complete by his son, Lincoln on October 31, 1941.











1 California become a state in September, 1850. Today it is the most populous
2 state, with large citys like San Francisco, San diego and Los Angeles. Only the states of
3 Alaska and Texas are big in size than California. California, which borders the country of
4 mexico, is often called "The Golden State." Do you know about Californias tallest and oldest
5 citizens. The states redwood trees grow to be 370 foot tall and live more 4 than 1,000 years.
