Culmination

Dear Parents/Guardians of 8th Grade Students:

 

Hale Charter Academy’s 8th grade Culmination is fast approaching. Your efforts and assistance have brought your child to this phase of their academic accomplishment.  The Culmination exercise will begin promptly at 8:00 A.M. onThursday, June 9, 2022.  Culminating students must report to their assigned assembly area by 7:15 A.M. If your child is ineligible, he/she will be notified and a letter will be mailed home. Those ineligible to graduate are not allowed to attend the rehearsals or the ceremony. Please feel free to contact Mrs.Rothaupt, 8th-grade Counselor, if you have questions regarding culmination requirements.

 

 Rehearsals:

In order to ensure that your student's culmination is a memorable one, it will be mandatory that all candidates for culmination participate in the scheduled rehearsals:

  1.  All students must be present for rehearsals on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.

  2. Students ineligible to participate in culmination will not be in regular classes during rehearsals.  They will be required to sit in the MPR and work on designated assignments.

  3. All debts must be cleared in order to participate in culmination.  This includes money owed for textbooks, Chromebooks, related damages to Chromebooks, library fines, fees, and/or PTSA delinquencies. THIS IS A REQUIREMENT TO PARTICIPATE. The deadline to pay is Monday, June 6th, by 4:00 P.M.  Please assist with this. NO DEBT PAYMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED ON THE DAY OF CULMINATION

  4. We will be rehearsing outside.  Students should dress accordingly and follow the dress code.  Sun screen will be needed.  Hats and water bottles will be allowed only during rehearsals.

 Tickets/Guests:

The culmination is planned for the parents or guardians of our graduates.  Each graduate will be issued 4 tickets.

  • One additional ticket may be requested by filling out the tear-off  on the bottom of this letter and returning it to the Main Office no later than Friday, June 3rd at 4:00 p.m. 

  • The parent's or guardian's signature must appear on the request.

  • These tickets will be issued following the rehearsal on Wednesday, June 8th.

  • GUESTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED INSIDE THE CAMPUS UNTIL 7:15 a.m.  

  • All guests will enter through the double gate near the handball courts on Califa.  The line will tail toward Platt.  

  • Certificates of Completion will be given to the graduates on the stage as they participate in the ceremony.

SMOKING, VAPING, AND E-CIGARETTES ARE NOT PERMITTED ON CAMPUS.  PLEASE! No Balloons, PETS, UMBRELLAS, NOISE MAKERS, POSTERS, GIANT HEAD IMAGES, OR LARGE BAGS/PURSES WILL BE ALLOWED ON CAMPUS. THANK YOU! 

 

 Culmination Attire: 

  • Girls should wear attire appropriate for dressy daytime wear.  No strapless, halter-top gowns/dresses/tops/blouses are allowed.  The ceremony is outdoors and the mornings are often cool, so please dress accordingly.  

  • Boys should wear dress shirts, slacks, and shoes.  Ties are recommended, but jackets are optional.  

  • Jeans, shorts, cut-offs, etc. are inappropriate for both boys and girls.  Outlandish styles of clothing, shoes, hair, and/or makeup will not be allowed.  Girls' heels (platforms) should not exceed two inches as students will be walking on the grass and ascending and descending cement steps.

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in losing the privileges to participate in the Culmination Ceremony.

 

 Photography:

  • Professional photographers take individual still photographs of each graduate at the time they receive their diploma. The family will have the opportunity to purchase 5"x7" photos via the photography website/contact.   

  • Personal photographs will be permitted on the stage with the graduate following the ceremony.   

 

DVD:

A professional videographer, Twenty-one Plus Productions, will record the culmination ceremony. DVD sales will be available on the day of culmination.

 

Bus Transportation: 

Transportation will NOT be provided for our graduates who ride the school buses as numbers are too low.

 

 Parking:  

Guests are encouraged to park on Platt Avenue and in the surrounding neighborhood if possible.  Please do not park in the Presbyterian Church parking lot on Hatteras St.  Vehicles will be towed. We will NOT have parking on campus.  PARKING IN THE STAFF LOT ON CALIFA IS STRICTLY LIMITED TO SCHOOL STAFF ONLY. We do not have handicapped parking available.

 

Awards Night: 

8TH Grade Awards Night will take place on Monday, June 6th at 6:00 p.m. on the outdoor stage.  Awards will be given to outstanding students in scholarship, citizenship, and departmental categories.  Students receiving an award will be notified and given an invitation to take home.

 

PTSA:

PTSA will be sponsoring two 8th-grade events:

  • 8th-grade Picnic-Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Vasa Park from 2:00-7:00 p.m.

  • Grad Night, Jr.-Friday, May 20th, 2022-Universals Studios from 4:00-12:00 a.m.

Please be advised that these events have not been approved by the Los Angeles Unified School District and are not school-sponsored activities.  Your son’s/daughter’s participation in such events is a private matter between your family.  Chaperones who provide supervision for minors of these activities do so as private citizens and are in no way authorized to perform such supervision as school district employees.

Please Remember:  

We appreciate your cooperation in our efforts to have a dignified, meaningful ceremony for both Culmination and the Awards Night.  Please adhere to the following rules:  The use of cameras and video recorders must not interfere with the progress of the ceremony, block the view of other guests, or detract from the dignity of the program in any way.  Please, no standing in the audience area, no smoking on school grounds and no crossing of roped areas.  These guidelines are made to increase the pleasure and safety of those who attend.

 

We hope Culmination and Awards Night will be memorable events for you all.
