Description
Welcome to 8th grade SAS Honors Science. It is my intend to make this year academically challenging and enjoyable. Students will develop skills necessary for success in the field of Science. Instruction will be differentaited by integrating both teaching and learning activities that enhance higher level of thinking skills, independent research, as well as in depth learning experiences thru inquiry (hands on) cooperative learning processes.Students will conduct experiments and short inquiries to test hypotheses. Students will record, organize, graph , and evaluate scientific data. They will be able to distinguish between variable and controlled parameters in an experiment and write up lab reports. Sudents will master many aspects of Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry) and Astronomy. Students will meet and exceed the California Science content standards. These content standards are posted in the classroom and are available on line at www.cde.ca/gov/board. A short summary of the standards is also posted as an attachment. I am looking forward for a successful year. I strongly beleive with your help we can make this happen. Let us work together to prepare our students for the challenges of the upcomming high school years. For any questions or concerns please e-mail me at [email protected] or leave me a message at the main office. Please review with your child the course syllabus. Please sign and return the tear off to class. SAFETY IN THE SCIENCE CLASSROOM (specially when conducting experiments) is discussed in class. Please review the letter describing the safety procedure and the safety contract with your child, sign and return the tear off to class.
