Parents,
I just want to take a moment to thank you for all of your support over this passed school year! This has been an amazing year full of learning and adventure. It was a pleasure to mentor your children and watch them learn, grow and change! Enjoy your summer, rest up and be safe.

Thank you again,
Ms Lundbergh

Assignment

It's that time of year, things are winding down, and we are reviewing and finishing up our years lessons (school lessons at least). We have begun learning about our last civilization and our last religion, Rome, and the spread of Christianity. In order to honor all of our hard work and this last unit and religion (as we have each that came before), we will enjoy a "Christian Cultural Exchange." Yes, it is a Christmas party in June! Any and all cultural traditions surrounding the holiday of Christmas will be welcome at this time. Please speak to your parents/students about ways you can contribute (it does not all have to be food!), decorations, stories or books etc.

Thank you in advance for all of your support!

ps- We are up over $100.00 for the Animal Shelter. I will take the donations on Friday. Thank you!!!!!!

Due:

Assignment

Our Christmas "Cultural Exchange" is today (Tuesday). Please ask you child what they have signed up for, remember not every child must bring food, any books, songs, stories or other cultural traditions will be welcome. We will also need students to contribute by setting up or cleaning up.

Also, some students have chosen to participate in a Secret Santa gift exchange. If your students is part of this group, the gift should be NO MORE than $5.00, and will be delivered on Tuesday.

Thank you again!!

Assignment

I am sorry to say that the Greek and Roman Herb garden will have to wait until next year. Unfortunately, we do not have funding this year for someone to care for the garden over the summer. I would hate to put all of our effort into a beautiful garden and have it fry in the valley's summer sun. I am keeping the project open on Donor's Choose .org because I am planning to begin early spring, next year. Hopefully, I will still have the same advisory next year, so the students will still be able to experience the pride of planting and tending the garden, as well as make the connections to our curriculum. For those parents who have donated Home Depot cards, etc, please let me know how you would like for me to handle that. I can keep them for next year, or send them home for your own summertime home improvements. Thank you so much for all of your support this year!

Another sad note: I am not sure that you are aware, but our advisory voted to collect donations for the West Valley Animal Shelter this year. Last I counted, we had collected over $42.00. This Friday I was out of the class during sixth period due to Grad Night planning (I am the 8th grade sponsor) and the donation jar was stollen from my class. I am very disappointed that someone would steal a donation jar, however, I am more disappointed that your students contributions were taken from their intended target. I will go to the West Valley Animal Shelter this Friday to make a donation in the name of our Advisory. If you would like to add to the donations, please send a check, made out to the animal shelter (I will not get individualized receipts, just one for Hale) to avoid any further dishonesty. I apologize for this turn of events, I have done this every year of my teaching career, and this is the first time that someone has taken the class donations. :((

ATTENTION PARENTS: This project is being postponed until after CST testing.

This year is Hale's 50th Anniversary! To honor Hale and those 50 years, the school is putting together a time capsule to be opened in another 50 years.

Your child's assignment is to make a time capsule for themselves. They can decide if it is going to be opened at the end of 6th grade, 8th grade, 12th grade, or when they graduate from college (a milestone moment). There must be at least 10 items in the capsule, and the capsule must be sealed. The items may include anything from this year that has some importance to your student. Items from the past may be included, however, this is to capture a "snap shot" of who they are now, so please encourage your student to stay focused on the topic. One item must be a letter to themselves about who and what they are right now, and what they hope to be in the future.

Your child will turn in a list (can be a poster) of everything in the capsule with an explanation for each item (at least 1 complete sentence). Get Creative!!

Parents,
Vacation is here! I am so sorry that I have not posted in a minute, things have been on the crazy side of crazy around here!

Our fieldtrip was a fantastic success, thank you to everyone who helped to make it possible and run smoothly. Your child is bringing home their History Portfolio and English Notebook. Please look over all of the amazing work that they did over this first semester, empty all of the papers out and send it back to school when we return.

I am offering an extra credit project for those that are interested (information attached). This is a good way to offer a little bit of cushion or wiggle room in case of unexpected absences or low scores. It is also a good way for your child to dive into their own personal history and heritage. Let them be as creative as possible!

Because the project is being offered as extra credit it is only worth 20 points, not the amount listed on the directions.

Enjoy your vacation and each other,
Ms Lundbergh

Dear Parents,
I am sorry, I just found out that the parent portal (on the LAUSD website) is not yet up and running. If you bring the forminto the counseling office they will put your name on a waiting list to receive the password. My thought is that the more parents they have on that list, the faster they will do this!

So that you have an accurate accounting of your students grades, I will print a grade sheet for your child. They will recieve the grade sheet at the 10 week, this is also when they have the opportunity to turn in any make-up work.

I will let you know when the portal is functional (I feel like this is Star Trek dialog!!). Sorry again and thank you for your patience.
