Regular English 7 (Period 6) Assignments

We will have a test on the following topics opn Wednesday: fixing run-on sentences (you must know the three methods we discussed in class), using semicolons correctly, and correcting misplaced modifiers. Use the practice worksheets we used in class to study.

The final draft of your summary is due tomorrow.

 

Reminder: The CST 7th grade writing test is in exactly one week! It will take place the morning of Tuesday, March 5th, and you will be well-prepared! You will rock it!

PLease finish the 7-12 sentence summary of the drought article. Please remember to use the summary roadmap we went over in class: Include the basic facts in a strongtopic sentence. Then elaborate on the background (causes) of the drought. Then, summarize the numerous possible effects the drought will have. Finally, conclude with a sentence that predicts (according to the article, not you!) what this summer might be like.

All classes need to have finished their novels by tomorrow, 2/20.

Reading and study questions due in all classes tomorrow!

Regular 7th: Please bring your rough draft to class tomorrow for revisions.

By 1/23, you must have read Chapters 6-8 of Freak the Mighty, and have the study questions done.

There will be a quiz on the Week 2 word roots on Friday, 1/18. This week's roots: hyper, hypo, sect, ex, tract, tort, leg, volv, sens, and apt.

Period 6 only: If you did not finish your word root sentences, they are to be finished at home and turned in tomorrow.

Read Ch. 1-5 in Freak the Mighty by Wednesday, 1/16. You also need to answer the study questions for Ch. 1-5 by tomorrow as well. (The reading and study questions will always be due the same day, and always on Wednesdays. You can check the reading assignment calendar postred in class to look ahead and see what is coming up!)

ALL students need three items by Monday, 1/14: a pack of 100 index cards for word roots, a pack of Post-It notes for annotating the novel, and a plastic bag to protect your book for water damage.

 

Periods 1 and 3 only are excused from needing the Post-It notes, though you may annotate if you wish. (We annotated a novel 1st semester and will be using a different strategy this semester.)

We will have a quiz on the first 10 word roots on Friday, 1/11.

Word study questions were passed out today. They are due tomorrow, 1/9, in complete sentences and on a separate sheet of paper. Please do not write your answers on the small sheet on which the questions were typed.

On Friday, 11/9, your DLP's and Journals will be collected.

There will be a quiz on identifying subjects and verbs n Friday, 10/19.

Your spelling test on the three spelling rules is tomorrow, 10/11. Be sure to use your SpellWell booklet to study!

Please finish the three questions on the story "Two Kinds" (p. 17) in your textbook.

Please finish the story board assignment for "The Treasure of Lemon Brown" on page 475 of your textbook.  Here is what needs to be explained in 2-3 sentences for each box:

 

1. Frame story: conflict

2. Inner story: setting (time and place)

3. Inner story: conflict

4. Inner story: resolution

5. Inner story: theme (reread the bottom of pg. 483 for help figuring this out!)

6: Frame story: resolution

 

Note: The frame story is the story of Greg and his dad arguing over Greg's math grade. The inner story is the story of Greg and Lemon Brown, and what they talk about with respect to a "treasure."

5th and 6th period were given grade sheets on Wednesday, 9/12; 4th period will receive their grade sheets on Thursday, 9/13. ALL grade sheets must be returned with a parent signature on Friday, 9/14. Parents, this counts as a homework grade for your child. Grade sheets will be returned to the students as soon as I check them for signatures.

Your DLP's and Journals (i.e Openers) will be collected on Friday, 9/7. Please make sure your entries are in date order, neat, and stapled together.
