Biome Poster
Now that you have learned about different biomes, it is time to become an expert on one biome of your choice.
Step 1: Select the biome you want to learn more about and get approval from the teacher.
Step 2: Get a poster of any size, but it must be at least 12 inches by 18 inches.
Step 3: Plan out what you will include in a rough draft before you begin the final poster.
##You must include the following information:
*Title-(This is the biome you have chosen)
*Types of plants
*Types of animals and how they have adapted to the environment
(that means how they survive)
*A weather section that includes how much it rains or snows, how
cold and warm it gets (the temperature range), and which seasons occur in your biome
*A geography section that tells in pictures or words where in the
world your biome is found
##Please add other interesting facts that you come across
##You must include colored drawings or pictures of plants and animals, with labels
Remember, a biome is a large region where the climate determines the plants and animals that can thrive. Similar biomes are found in different parts of the world where the climate is similar.
..Example land biomes are desert, tundra, rain forest, grassland, or deciduous forest
..Example marine biomes are estuary, intertidal (rocky shoreline), surface zone, or deep zone
..Example freshwater ecosystems are ponds and lakes or streams and rivers (you may choose to do one of these ecosystems)
Write one paragraph and attach it to the back of your poster that answers these questions: Would you like to visit this biome? Why or why not? Would you like to live in this biome? Why or why not? What are the best and worst things about this biome?
You will have some time in class to work on this project. Whatever is not finished during class must be completed at home. The due date is _Friday, May 31.

Begin working on your science research project. You have been assigned to research one earthquake, volcano, hot spot, or mountain formation. You must work on the one event written on your assignment paper given in class. You may not change unless you receive my permission.
Your first step is to try going on this website to look up your event and take some notes: ology.amnh.org/explore This website is sponsored by the American Museum of Natural History. See the entry above here for help getting to the website page. If you cannot get to the website, I will try to help you at school.
There are 3 different due dates for this project. The first date is Jan 14, when you must show me the notes you have take and sources that you are using (internet site, book, encyclopedia, etc).
Your final project will be a poster. Try to provide your own poster paper and I will accept ANY size (but make it larger than 12 by 18 inches). Use any of the following to describe your topic:
words, drawings, cut out pictures, downloaded pictures, maps, charts, etc.

divergent boundary, convergent boundary, transform boundary, oceanic-oceanic collision, continenetal-oceanic collision, continental-continental collision, oceanic crust and continenetal crust.
You may not remember all the parts of our lab, and you don't need to use every vocabulary word, but please describe as much as you can remember. You may include some sketches, but you also need to use sentences. I hope that eating your lab will help you remember tectonic plate activity for a good, long time.

Using the data you collected during our lab investigation today, find the average time it took for each brand of ketchup to reach the finish line over the 3 trials. Then try to identify the:
independent variable
dependent variable
control variables.

Assignment
Welcome to 6th grade. I hope everyone had an enjoyable first day. I provided a welcome letter to students in my science and/or English classes today. I would like parents/guardians to review the letter and return the third page to me with a signature. I am especially interested in knowing if students have food allergies or diet restrictions. I sometimes provide treats, and I will accommodate any special needs by offering a replacement item at a parent request.
Students also enrolled in my advisory class received an additonal letter from me, and a packet from the school that should be signed and returned as soon as possible.
