This website is especially useful for gathering general information about what the world looked like when some of your subects were alive. For example, you can look up daily life in ancient Egypt or ancient Greece.
When you are finished gathering information, start putting the most interesting facts into the 3 required paragraphs.
Due:

We have started to gather information for our research project in the school library. Your homework assignment is to continue your research by going on-line to read some more about the person you have chosen. Take notes on important facts that you learn. You will put these facts together into 3 paragraphs for your final step... Remember the 3 paragraphs are:
** 1) biography (or history) of the person's life
** 2) greatest achievment and why we remember the person
** 3) the world they lived in (describe housing, clothes, food gathering, weapons, etc.--whatever you find interesting).
I will be checking your notes so be sure to bring your work to class everyday.
Also try to go to your local library and find books or encyclopedias to help you gather information.
Due:
Assignment
You received directions for your research project today. You must bring this paper back to class with a parent signature so I know you have told your parent about this project. You will be using the frame template I have given you to tell our class about yourself.
There are 5 sections, to be completed as follows:
1) Tell about your first name (for example, the meaning, why you received this name, family history, etc.) **This does not have to be a paragraph
you can google some information and ask your family what they know
2) Tell about your last name (for example, the meaning, what language it comes from, any interesting information) **This does not have to be a paragraph
you can google some information and ask your family what they know
3) Write a one paragraph biography to tell us about you. You may include anything interesting, such as where you have lived, accomplishments, talents, travels, adventures, etc. This must be written as a paragraph. You do not need to include everything about you, just a few important ideas.
4) Write one paragraph predicting your future. This may include where you might live as a grown-up, college, the career you hope to have, where you would like to travel, etc. Feel free to add or subtract from this list. These are just suggestions. This must be written as a paragraph.
5) In the middle of your page, you will present a visual about yourself. Be creative! Do anything you like, such as presenting a drawing, a photo, magazine cutouts, an acrostic poem from your name, ...
This can be something that represents you or what you like...Again, be creative!!
A few extra notes about this assignment--Try to use the one frame page I gave you. You may write or type and then glue your work onto the frame page. If you need more room, use the back of the page. See me if you have questions...Try to have fun.

Welcome to 6th grade. I hope everyone had an enjoyable first day. I provided a welcome letter to students in my science and/or English classes today. I would like parents/guardians to review the letter and return the third page to me with a signature. I am especially interested in knowing if students have food allergies or diet restrictions. I sometimes provide treats, and I will accommodate any special needs by offering a replacement item at a parent request.
Students also enrolled in my advisory class received an additonal letter from me, and a packet from the school that should be signed and returned as soon as possible.
